I’ve been collecting Funko Pop!s since Christmas 2014 when I got my first two from my partner – Jax Teller and Opie Winston from Sons of Anarchy. I’ve been meddling with customs on and off since then using skills and techniques learned from miniature building and painting that I’ve been doing for about 15 years now, and launched GG Customs with my partner in October 2015 and began taking commissions. My customs have reached far away lands that I’ll never visit, and that’s pretty cool!
When creating a custom I usually start with an idea, no matter how simple. I figure out how I’m going to make it, weather that means sketching something out or just a quick mock up with photo editing is on a case by case basis.
I’ve made some cool pops I’m particularly proud of, and I’ve included some of my favourites here to share with you.
Arkham Prisoner Harley Quinn was made as a gift for my partner and has since been commissioned a few times.
Firestorm is a relatively new commission of mine and one I particularly like (I almost didn’t want to send him away to his owner!)
Batquinn was commissioned to accompany the Loot Crate exclusive Joker Batman.
Carmine was commissioned by a massive Gears of War fan. Loving Gears myself, I was thrilled to work on this and we have plans to make more based on his squad.
Battle Damaged Tony Stark was a fun piece to make. I literally cut and sawed chunks out of the pop to create the damaged effect, later adding to it with painting. I tried out new washing techniques I hadn’t used on pops before to create a worn out look that I ended up really pleased with and even tricked out Tony’s armour with a metallic paint job.
In constantly sharing new work, sneak peaks and announcements (I’m soon going to be able to pair my customs with custom boxes thanks to a new partnership – stay tuned for more info!) as well as any future giveaways I’ll be hosting.
